Dark Houses - Digital Zine - Downloadable PDF

This is a downloadable PDF of a visual poetry zine, where words and images form a haunting atmosphere of dark houses, whispered secrets and flickering lights. With a minimalist and poetic feel, the original illustrations were made with black Holbein drawing ink.

These surrealistic houses are a way for me to explore the subconscious charge of spaces and how physical locations stimulate the inner workings of our imaginary worlds. I believe that places are infused with the perceptual weight of memory. I'm interested in real physical spaces and how the mind will be simultaneously flooded by the physical realness of the architecture, and the more indeterminate emotions, feelings and states of being that arise from the space. Houses and homes are especially fascinating to me, as the complex feelings one might have towards these places can interweave, turning a 'home' into a frightening unfamiliar place, where memories haunt the walls and become the stuff of nightmares. This story of strange dark houses are the result of my exploration into this theme.

This is the first zine of my collection of 3 zines, of which Dark Houses is the first, Weavings is the second, and Hidden Hills is the last.
They can be read independently but there is a progression that happens from the first to the last, so there's an added layer of meaning when they are read in the order I created them.
